A Brief History Llyn y Mawn means Peat Lake. Originally it is likely
to have been used by travellers as it is situated on the road
to Holywell which would have been a major route in those days.
The Stephenson family were the tenants in the mid 1800s. In 1903
it was described as a licensed free house serving refreshments
and accommodation consisting of two beds. Another report mentioned
good accommodation with food served as well as alchohol drinks.
The owner occupier was Edward Leaning.
By 1928 it was owned by St. Winifred's Brewery who then sold it
to tenant Mr T R Stephenson for £600. It had two fields
covering four acres and is described as having a tap room, smoke
room, ground floor cellar, living room and scullery with three
bedrooms on the first floor. Outside buildings included a stable
and barn.
Recently there have been a number of owners and it has been renowned
for good food as well as being a venue for live music.
